Comments: Great website!! Hopefully lots of people can get info & pass it around to others. Our son is 5 yrs old. And I wonder every day what his life could have been like if his mother wouldn't have drank & did drugs. Great job & keep spreading the word!!

Comments: I think Teresa Kellerman has some great information on her web pages. I am a student at Washington State University and am doing a paper on Fetal Alcohol Syndrom. I was so impressed by Teresa's hard work and effort she has put forth to provide important information for everyone. Her love for her son John is so obvious and wonderful! I enjoy visiting these web sites and wish Teresa and her family only the best.

Comments: I surfed on to your site while looking for information regarding a developmental psychology project at the University of Calgary. Although I have no first hand experience with FAS, I salute you for sharing such personal information in the name of education and understanding. It is nice to see a web site that offers the personal effects of FAS and FAE along with the statistics! Thanks for a wonderful site! I wish you all the best.

Comments: I have read the articles in the Tucson Citizen. I'm interested in learning more about FAS in the areas of teaching and possibly even volunteering. I work full time and I am also trying to finish my degree. I have had a special interest in special education because of the handicaps my brother has. I am currently living in Tucson now, so if you have information you can give me I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Comments: I found this to be a very informative site. I have five adopted children. The 12-year old is definitely FAS/FAE but the agencies refrained from that label because it characterizes children as unadoptable. Now I read the series of articles in the Tucson Citizen about John Eastlack in particular and I see another one just like him growing up in my house. At age 12, he is a master thief, compulsive liar and has absolutely no conscience. I put locks on things and he destroys them. I do a search of his backpack on a daily basis and still pull out my camera, money, you name it. He blames everything on his mother taking drugs before he was born. Like the article says, "too smart to be dumb and too dumb to be smart". I waged a major battle with the School District Governing Board to get him retain this year but they will not help me again. It was only after I started calling out names and pretty much insinuated that I would sue later that I received any consideration. They held the decision back but finally retained. After reading of Eastlack's problems at Rincon, I am frightened to death of sending this kid to Magee next year and as a single parent with limited income I simply cannot afford a private school. He has no conscience, my remonstrations don't faze him. I am terrified that in the next few months I will be making reguular trips to juvie for hearings. It would probably have already come to that were I not so strict with my supervision, but as a single parent with no external support I am tired. I need some sleep instead of sitting up nights guarding the house and sleeping behind a locked door and hugging my purse close to me. Enough of my talking. I am going back to the beginning now to see about that support group I saw. Thanks for listening. People like me have needed this web page for a long time.

Comments: I am on the Board of the "Intercultural Health Association of Alberta". We are currently planning a conference regarding FAE/FAS. While there is much information available regarding pregnancy and affected children, there is little that we have come across on affected adults. One of our primary interests is to discover teaching strategies that could be used by social workers, health educators, nurses, etc. to promote a well-balanced life for affected adults, their spouses and children. Often, these adults are written off as "unteachable"; left in poor economic states and having their children apprehended by Child Welfare. We are also interested in research that has been done on the cost to healthcare that these individuals have when left without resources and any research that has been done within the prison system on affected adults. Any help you could give would be appreciated. Thank you. Christine

Comments: HI Everyone: Glad to see you all here. I am in the process of trying to get a support group started here where I live. I see lots of FAS/FAE here and very little knowledge about it, all being pawned off as just ADHD. Any suggestion how to get this going? PLEASE contact me. Hugs Deb in Ava

Comments: Just found you guys. Thanks for being here for people. I have two kids with FAE, Brandon-6 & Shayon-3,both were my oldest daughters.Had no idea what was causing their problems untill 8 months ago. They don't seem to respond to anything, such as medicine,counciling,etc..There are times I don't feel I can handle this anymore.I'm 45 and this should be my time to enjoy life, not raising kids again. Does everyone go through these feelings? Or am I just feeling SORRY for myself?

Comments: After reading these pages I find the research for my homework very easy. However, it is never easy for the poor children who do not get to pick their lives. I leave this website with a new view on life and hope that some day we can become more like animals because I've never seen an animal do something that he knew was bad for him. In the end I hope that more attention and public notice is given to these type of situations. To those that knew the consequences of drinking while being pregnant, god will sort the out.

Comments: September 9. 1997 --I am chair of a committe to do a public awareness campaign re: FAS/FAE. Hawaii is near the top in alcohol and ice ( crystal meth) use. BUT we are among the lowest in diagnosed cases of FAS/FAE. We are just begining. I need any help I can get on what has worked for other states/countries. Hawaii has very few treatment facilities and is undergoing an econimic slump. We are focusing on prevention and identification. Thank you for any help.
