FAS STAR HIROMI

Pictures of Peggy's nieces and nephew
are not here because their parents
are still drinking. Here's what Peggy writes:

My young nephew and niece are dizygotic twins (fraternal). They were not growing well prenatally until they put their mom into the hospital where she could not drink. Both were born at about 6 pounds, my niece slightly heavier than her brother. Both were almost 19 inches long. Her brother was born with a great deal of hair on his face. My niece was very quiet but her brother had a tiny, thin cry and could not cry for more than a few seconds.

My nephew is obviously FAS. He has all the facial features, he is hyperactive, tends to rages, is very, very thin and small...less than the 5 percentile in both cases. He will be placed in a private school next spring because the public schools (in Japan) cannot deal with him.

His sister is quiet and hypoactive. She is considered to be the intelligent one in the family....although she has some problems like not knowing how to cut out paper dolls and how to use common everyday tools. The distance between her eyes is even wider than her brother or older sister. She has no philtrum above her lip and a very recessive chin. She is thin and small...again less than the 5 percentile. She also shuts down in crowds and has a great deal of trouble with strangers. From the experience of other families on the list, I am hoping that her major problems will not start up in puberty, but as the years go by, she appears to be more and more withdrawn and never smiles.
